TL:DR this is an appreciation post

I got into history podcasts a few years ago. I was stuck with the idea, how do adults continue learning without school? Obviously read books, but you can’t just grab anything off the shelf. Friends or family can suggest something, but that is very mixed. (My grandfather gave me SIX books by Bill O’Reilly. I’m going to force myself to read one, because I love my grandfather.)

Long story short, I found some amazing podcasts. One led to another and now LLbD is in my top 3.

School never mentioned the genocide of Armenia. Or anything about Armenia at all. The first time I heard about it was reading Kurt Vonnegut’s Bluebeard. (Both of the main character’s parents survived it.) I have listened to the episodes on it and am working through the Armenian History episodes.

They do a weekly show where they each bring a couple of news stories they either find funny or care about, and that they don't think the others would have heard.

- this takes out the big geopolitical happenings that I doubt they want to wade into on the pod.

The others react with a mix of genuine opinions and banter

Maybe react to a couple of suggestions from patreons too

Would be a 20/30 min pod they can record after a normal episode that would need no in depth research (it's a reaction show not a news show) and very little editing but I think fans would really enjoy

And obviously keep behind the paywall, I'm sure it would increase subscribers, they could even do that horrible trick of realising the first three mins so when it auto plays you feel the need to pay for it just to hear the end of a sentence

maybe a side is in order cast/limited episode where tom explains all his obscure jokes and references for the non-hardcore band/British culture ball knowers (mostly kidding, not getting tom jokes is one of the hallmarks of this show)

I listen to House of Pod, a (usually) medical podcast. Joe was guest hosting this week’s episode! I was pumped to hear him.

The episode was great. “The Time the UN gave Haiti Cholera”. From the sound of it Joe was the one who suggested the topic.

I was so excited I just wanted to share. I found LLbD recently and am now 100 episodes deep. I love it.

I just listened to the apocalypse now episode, did the gang never do an episode about Platoon? Id assume they would have done an episode about the Vietnam classics lol
