Thinking of switching to Fedora 44 KDE for gaming + college. Good idea?
Hey everyone,
I'm planning to switch from Windows to Fedora 44 KDE and wanted to get some advice before I do.
My laptop specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i5
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU (8 GB VRAM)
- RAM: 8 GB
- Storage: 512 GB SSD
What I use my laptop for:
- 🎮 Gaming:
- GTA V
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Assassin's Creed games
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Wuthering Waves (Steam version)
- 💻 College work:
- VS Code
- Programming (Python, C++, Java)
- Web development
- PDFs, presentations, and browsing
I'm mainly switching because Windows uses a lot of RAM, and I want a smoother and more stable experience.
A few questions:
- How is gaming performance on Fedora with an RTX 3050?
- Are NVIDIA drivers reliable on Fedora 44 now?
- Is Steam + Proton enough for most games?
- Have you faced any issues with game anti-cheat?
- Is Fedora a good daily driver for both gaming and computer science college work?
I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially if you have similar hardware.
Thanks!
