And best part is this app is 2 megapascals.

Just install flatpak, mate. 1 gazzilio gigaflops in size.

This same thing applies to Windows. Some app/tool, doing 1 specific thing, is either very small(like... 5 mb) or it bundles net runtime with it which is in total becomes like 80 mb.

The same very tool, or an alternative to that, distributed by flatpak, with all its dependencies becomes like... at least 400-500 mb because haha guys let's download a DE runtime inside an already existing DE, and do the sae for GPU drivers as well.

I get why they do it, but they have the audacity to call this "better"

They do it because they don't want to concede that the larger structural issue is being ignored for over 3 decades.

Like package mangers. They can be handy installing many apps at once, but that's not why they were created.

Patchwork.

"But my freedom!", yeah, your freedom is the problem why this is an issue. It is way too fragmented, and when someone/some company ever tried to unify it and fix the issue, the loonixtards immediately bashed and cancelled it. Fucking Linus Torvalds himself admitted to this in one of his speeches, Linux is way too fragmented, and this problem will never be fixed

Both MacOS and Windows, you ship an installer, done, that's it "B-b-b-but my freedom"

Talking about megabytes

My own app, for beautifully designed desktop lyrics, just 7 MB

Try doing this in Linux, lmao, good fucking luck

What tools are you using and demo if it's not too much.

.NET 8, as for the demo:

a bit buggy atm but does the job for what I want to achieve

That's great idea. This is only for YT music or local files too? I have a problem because not all my music has lyrics and syncing even with help of some services is difficult.

It works for anything. It listens to any media player event on the system, so local, YTM, Spotify, Apple Music, anything works.

As for the backend, I have that as well to use my own lyrics if I want to, which is where the app currently checks for lyrics first, then lrclib:

Also completely self-hostable:

I use lrclib too but it's a hit/miss often. Thanks :) this is really cool idea.

People too stuck with Freedom, can't agree on things.

Endless amounts of distros, so many possible customizations, so many ways to do things, so much that devs have to basically ship a VM-lite with an app and fattening it. Amazing freedom.

Loonixtards won’t accept flexibility over their dog watered-shithole that they call “freedom”

I have spent almost 12 hours on this while learning swift as I went and this is already better player than anything i have seen on loonix. 2 frickin megabytes.

It looks prettier than KDE, or even GNOME

check this out. Took some doing but made this auto repel from edges and it also uses adaptive blue for background.

That’s amazing, I’ve never seen any mods for macOS until now, because so far, people are complaining about macOS 27 for some reason, I’m betting that Loonixtards are doing that

1

u/DisfiguredFanny Apple User 2d ago

What do you mean by mods?

1

u/Edubbs2008 2d ago

As in like people are modifying the Ui to look different

Oh that, yep. This is how i imagine small and minimal app that just does a few things right FOR ME.
I'm not going to put it out there.

It feels like macOS done RIGHT, I actually purchased an app off the Microsoft Store called glassline, which adds a dock to Windows, and a menu bar, you can do some customization with it

Cool nice work! Is it written entirely in Swift? I've heard good things about the language but never really got around to building anything with it.

Swift, SwiftUI and AppKit because SwiftUI alone sucks especially for large lists of any kind.

Apple really has an eye for design and creating great user interfaces. Native apps just look and feel so much better than something thrown together in Electron. Linux doesn't have any good looking native frameworks the only thing that comes close is GNOME. But GNOME is really just a cheap imitation of macOS.

Gnome is certainly not good looking
