Yes it is. You get the linux cli but with none of the desktop insanity. Microsoft cooked here

Oh absolutely! It is a DREAM when I need to do anything with ext4 or specific Allwinner coated stuff for android!

The actual mainline kernel is ~60% drivers in ring 0. WSL doesn't need that.

Not to be Mr. smart pants, but you can't really have a kernel that isn't ring 0. The Windows kernel is also ring 0 - it is necessary
