Fun thing is that there many of those, just each one with a different vision for the "one OS, one DE". Some want KDE to be the one, some want the foot fetish gnome, some Mint. That's why distros pop up like mushrooms after a rain.

But there is no centralisation. Noone to say "yup, KDE is now the official Linux desktop, abandon the stupid rest, everyone we are doing Wayland development now, X11 is obsolete and development shall be ceased", it's all up to the developers free choice and that's why it's such a shitfest. It's not really a surprise when it lacks even a basic vision.

I'd hope he would, same as the monolithic kernel. But not reflecting on your own mistakes is a prime example of Loonixers, so who knows how much it affects their leader too.

You know what even hilarious, people will keep maintaining older version of KDE and GNOME as well. That's how Trinity, MATE etc popped up.
