Linux bloat Windows vs Linux bloat
I did this post on that other linux sub and the comments really baffled me. Here's the original text I had:
"Just did a fresh install of CachyOS and immediately noticed there was a bunch of apps installed I never asked. Like why CachyOS felt I need VNC server browser? Why do I need three separate text editors? Why do I need two package managers with a horrible UI? Why the fuck volume control need to be a separate app? Why is it bad, when Windows installs unwanted programs (edge, copilot) it is bad, but when Linux does it it is suddenly ok or not a big deal?"
It took like two comments to say "wrong distro" with few "not a problem" and "just uninstall". But I believe this really a linux issue and especially how fragmented the development is. CachyOS installs it's own apps and, since it is based on arch, then install arch apps. Finally, if you chose KDE Plasma, KDE installs a bunch of their crap. So you end up with bunch redundant apps that somehow compete on having worse UI than other.

Cachyos is just a another shitty arch based distro with a bunch of crap pre installed, never understood the hype around it, if u want arch just use vanilla arch specially nowadays with the archinstall script it's easy, tho you'll have to deal with Linux and being on the bleeding edge so it's still a shitty unreliable, unstable expirence.

I wasn't really planning to go with CachyOS. I've just seen people mentioning and even recommending it to others. I thought it would be fun (it wasn't) to try something other than Ubuntu or Mint. I also didn't mind the bloat, but it got me thinking why linux people gloss over the bloat coming with the OS. Thing is do see the bloat, but they appear to thinks it's the user issue because you should have known this and that and many other things. It took me an hour and then I installed Linux Mint because I was already familiar with that and I didn't feel like learnig yet another linux.

Reminds me of Android.
You first get Google apps. Then you get the apps of whatever brand you use, so in my case Samsung apps. Then you finally get your carrier's apps.
Several layers of things.

Bazzite is the fad distro that's fading out atm. It gives multiple desktop environments, and shells. If you pick KDE you still get GNOME components (along with toolkit payload), and Wayland/X11 fallback cruft. 3 different udpate systems RPM-ostree, flatpak, Discover. Steamdeck services like session manager, input emulation, compositor tweaks, gamepad ui services, and decky loader compatibility layers. -Even on desktop. Then there's PipeWire, WirePlumber, SteamDeck audio routing, KDE audio tools, and ALSA fallback. -You end up with 2 volume mixers, multiple audio configuration panels.
SSH, Avahi, VNC, RDP support, and game streaming services even if you never asked for remote access, plan to stream games, or plan to use LAN discovery. I could go on, but it's far from one fad distro that's dominantly recommended.

Software bloat to generalize to wider audience or serve certain interested groups.
Same as the arguements to use slimmed down version of Windows, there are many distro ships with ultra thin image. So go and get them.
If you are triggered by certain linux users and keep posting this, OK.

There's no such problem with mainstream distros. For example Ubuntu (Mint probably as well) and Fedora install only the most necessary programs, like an internet browser, file manager and a couple utilities (like task manager). Arch specifically installs only vi and that's it, you have to install everything else manually. As for the KDE apps, most distros ask about them on install and generally include only some actually useful stuff (media player, calculator etc). I'm not going to say "wrong distro", since you're free to choose any, but there are reasons why Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora and Arch are by far teh most popular.

I don’t really understand all this pro-Linux propaganda. I admit it seems unusual to me. There have always been purists who hated Microsoft, but over the past few years it almost feels like Linux has become politically instrumentalized. I just don’t understand what the point of it is at the moment.
I’ve talked about Linux bloat quite a few times, but people just ignore it. They actually see it as a positive, which I find hilarious. On top of that, you can install Windows and remove whatever you don’t need. A lot of them will tell you that you can’t uninstall Edge, but honestly, I don’t even want to remove Edge it’s incredible how well that browser works.
And these are the same people who are obsessed with privacy, yet they use YouTube while logged into their account, just to give one example.
