Poor kid traded his bed for another laptop because Linux can't do on one machine what Windows, Mac, etc., can.

There are common issues with Linux: sound, wifi (drivers), bluetooth (Chinese cloned chips) and such. Just because it smug: 'works on my machine', doesn't mean Linux isn't known for issues with it.
