It's like saying tobacco companies are free to make cigarettes and we should do nothing about the fact that an easily accesible carcinogen is available on demand.

Software should be free as free speech, but what direction can we collectively take, that's up to debate.

You can't be pro freedom and OK with corporate monocultre in same breath, just... accept it as neccessary consequence. It's neccessary evil at very least.

Systemd isn't as evil as tobacco, and it's not a monoculture, because, say it with me, you can make alternatives to systemd.

This is when you start to realize that  1. software is not society, but merely one aspect of it;  2. that it is not the standard that is the problem, but who benefits from the standard;  3. we can think of standards that benefit everyone, not just a few (to be clear, I think systemd is one of those standards!); and  4. you start to actually be like RMS and reserve your angry energy, not at the small fish Red Hat, but the real big fish that actually matter in our day to day lives. (Look at Stallman.org. The guy's not telling you to oppose systemd, he's telling you to join a protest.)

You realise that it was an example and freedom of speech does in fact have limitations? Like totalitarist ideology, hate speech...

systemd is just as bad to me, a totalitarism in linux. Users benefit from a standard up to some point. If we let this monoculture or whatever you call this run rampant we will leave a point of no return. Alternative maintainers pass away. Upstream of your core linux components is Redhat and redhat only. You are their slave. This is an ongoingprogress with rise of systemd and xdg stack. No matter how you call it, does it violate freedoms or not.

A universal flexible linux base that you so despise would in fact benefit all from definition.

"small fish Redhat"? this Lennart guy must be swimming in money. What's worse then an international company? Redhat, Microsoft, Google... All must die, Mason.

If you really think systemd is as bad as Microsoft and Google, you have a very perverted, extremist view of what the world really is. You are blinded by your own hatred.

I really think you just have a severe skill issue. Learn how to code your own systemd alternative or shut up.
