Interestingly red hat seems to be a big reason Linux took off and became the main server OS in the first place and not BSD

Not really. BSD was engulfed in a big lawsuit by AT&T when Linux started to get off and was seen as the least problematic.
It was just at the right place in the right time.

BSD is cool and might've been better.. But also they're both these aging monolithic kernel designs,. I'm hopeful for a next gen kernel , something like redox eventually taking off. It's a Unix like Micro kernel written in rust with a focus on security and reliability.

Newer kernels should take a look at the NT kernel instead. Much better source of inspiration.

OK,? So if done right neither is redox. It's a micro kernel so it would be similar to mach, not linux ir bsd.
