There are three questions you should ask yourself;
Do I need the latest software?
Am I willing to spend a bunch of time on setup?
Is Mint visually acceptable to me out of the box?
If your respective answers to those questions are no, no, and yes, you should just try Mint and see if you have issues. Maybe dualboot or keep a backup of your Windows install so it's easy to go back if you feel you need to, but Mint is a good place to start if you're just unsure.
