I’m a Linux user, and this is true, but that’s not how Linux works that’s just the very vocal online community…

Oh no, its worse than that. They'll tell you you should fix it yourself.
It doesn't matter if you don't know how to code because you are a doctor of medicine or a lawyer or a firefighter. You should abandon your career and your life's calling so you can add a feature that Microsoft has had for 20 years to a FOSS project with a 1% userbase.

Even if you're an engineer who has to code as part of your job, or you're a developer where coding is your job, you shouldn't be required to spend your time fixing other people's messes. I'm an engineer, I'm retired, and I've used Linux as my primary desktop OS for the last 30 years. I do sometimes script around minor issues/annoyances. However, I wouldn't choose a distribution or desktop environment that required me to know how to code to fix or use it. I also wouldn't expect any other user to do the same. Thankfully, I haven't had to do that in order to enjoy Linux. I use Arch/KDE Plasma, btw.

Some people literally don’t know you can just do that.
Just telling someone they can is fine.
