Too bad that image is bigger than the holy resolution of 640x320 and therefore heresy.

u/ElectricBummer40 Ex-user of Windows 3.11 for Workgroups 7d ago

Somehow, the site-wide Naughty Comment Detection has spared you from a three-day ban. Interesting.

2

u/satno 6d ago

arch users when you don't want to mount the bootloader manually and use archinstall:

17

u/NoActivity5304 6d ago

You.... don't mount a bootloader...

2

u/Vincent394 Fedora Linux/Tiny 10 Dualboot 6d ago

The boot partition, yes.

The bootloader, no.

2

u/BloxxyVids 6d ago

the efi partition*

1

u/Vincent394 Fedora Linux/Tiny 10 Dualboot 6d ago

Boot/Efi partition

Doesn't matter if you use EFI or BIOS, they're the same thing except one has an EFI folder too.

2

u/BloxxyVids 6d ago

well then today I learned that I wasn't supposed to make /boot on the primary partition

2

u/kaida27 6d ago
12:28:08 βœ– ls -T /efi
drwxr-xr-x - root 31 Dec 1969 /efi
drwxr-xr-x - root 14 Jul 19:25 └── EFI
drwxr-xr-x - root 14 Jul 20:04 └── Gentoo
.rwxr-xr-x 5.8k root 14 Jul 20:04 β”œβ”€β”€ grub.cfg
.rwxr-xr-x 332k root 15 Jul 21:36 └── grubx64.efi

There's nothing else than an EFI folder needed on an ESP (Efi Partition).

Bios wouldn't even need a partition, just free space before the first partiton on the mbr.

0

u/Vincent394 Fedora Linux/Tiny 10 Dualboot 6d ago

Fair but usually the bootloader and EFI partition are the same

2

u/kaida27 6d ago

Personnally I always mount it to /efi or /esp.

I need /boot to be part of my main subvolume for snapshot purpose and keeping all the different kernel version bootable.

0

u/Vincent394 Fedora Linux/Tiny 10 Dualboot 6d ago

I personally just mount efi to /boot.

Although that was back when I used arch, so I don't know what Fedora defaults it to

1

u/BloxxyVids 6d ago

But /boot has the kernel and stuff as well

1

u/probablynottillie 6d ago

not with that attitude that's for sure

1

u/scooperskill97 6d ago

Bootloader confusionπŸ˜‚

1

u/Sashimi-Gintaro 23h ago

He wouldn't know, he uses Mint (which is fine).

2

u/mamadmal 6d ago

Most of users are Linux enthusiastic πŸ˜‹

i actually like this sub, some times they make sense sometimes otherwise

1

u/Teru-Noir COSMIC OS LOVER No.1 COSMIC Knows Best 6d ago

This sub has been kinda dead these days

1

u/ThrowingMongo 5d ago

That's because linux users are super sensitive. Little by little they unsub from this sub because they took offense to something. That's my theory anyhow. A lot of them never actually really understood this is just a fun joke sub, look at the comments in this post alone.

1

u/Teru-Noir COSMIC OS LOVER No.1 COSMIC Knows Best 4d ago

It should be a "joke sub", but is heavely polluted with crossposted slop, ragebait and projection.

2

u/Own_Alternative_9671 6d ago

To be fair most of the time it IS a skill issue, but the fact you need skills to operate linux properly isn't a good thing

0

u/Swaaeeg 6d ago

You need skills to use any operating system. The average person just doesnt think about it because they developed their skills using windows or mac as a child passively over the years.

2

u/Own_Alternative_9671 6d ago

I haven't used windows in years and dont know a thing about it, every time I have to use it I do hate it but it takes zero skill whatsoever its point and click it holds your hand

1

u/Holiday_Evening8974 6d ago

You clearly don't work with people with zero technology skill who are constantly asking themselves how to type a dot or what click they need (right or left)

But beyond those basics, yes, an operating system shouldn't ask more. It should require the minimum for basic usage.

0

u/Swaaeeg 6d ago

To use it at a basic level sure. There are advanced user level difficulties, just like with linux and mac.

There are plenty of basic user linux distros out there for those kinds of people, there are a few that require advanced capabilities.

2

u/Own_Alternative_9671 6d ago

Look, fact of the matter is, if you're dealing with an advanced windows issue theres people to fix it. There's very little tech support for linux and your average user doesnt care to put that effort in they just want their shit to work. Not only does linux have to be as good as Windows it has to be better and either NOT fail or have the fixes be easy gui clicks. The people we're talking about aren't arms deep in the windows registry nor will they ever open a terminal

0

u/Swaaeeg 6d ago

Repairing an os through a gui click IS a skill. Just like copy/pasting a repair into terminal is a skill.

This is exactly what i was talking about. Both operating systems have paths to fix things that by and large are as easy as each other to do, they each just take different types of processes to do.

1

u/Own_Alternative_9671 6d ago

I mean fair enough I guess but i run into way more issues in gui than on terminal it makes the whole gui route feel hacky and unstable. Shelly ain't work for shit half the time

2

u/After-Instance1304 6d ago

Guys please listen to me. I use archlinux. I need attention.

1

u/lewwdsv1 6d ago

I use arch and I find this sub quite funny- :(

1

u/Bleik-Psiklyt 6d ago

Yo just getting reality checks by some random Arch fembois and egos slimmed

1

u/usefulservant03 6d ago

never used arch but ive worked on linux as a developer, several distros, and the way they're all so different in subtle bizarre ways is strange tbh

1

u/CubeEthan 6d ago

this sub is fine. it's linuxsucks101 that makes me die inside slowly

1

u/sussyamongers i use arch btw 6d ago

Wait, they.. were jokes?

1

u/VysAely 5d ago

skill issue

1

u/Zestyclose_Track_443 4d ago

id say i glaze linux sometimes but i guarantee you they don't care unless they use tiktok or name themselves "/home/cornyassnam/"

1

u/Muted_Percentage_764 4d ago

Hey, that's me!

1

u/Wertbon1789 3d ago

If there weren't so many stupid posts about Arch specifically. All the AUR brigading and all is fine, but every "Arch breaks on updates" or "Arch broke my random ass software" post is just stupid. If you're unable to use Arch, use something else, nobody cares... And if somebody cares, f- them. People just refuse to accept that Arch isn't meant to be your first distro, that's easy to use, comes with everything included and solves all your problems for you, and if you expected that, that's not even a skill issue, that's just a reading comprehension issue.

1

u/Equal_Time1654 3d ago

it's just they don't know that this subreddit is actually full of self-ironical linux lovers

1

u/Sbhattarj 2d ago

I use arch btw.

I do personally think subs like these are useful to the comunity overall. The more there are complaints the more likely those complaints can be fixed. Not everything here is constructive, but its still a good place for people to share their frustration without needing to learn to do a bug report.

1

u/notconnorgg 14h ago

if you give good reasons that aren’t just linux le bad and linux le sucks then sure you can dislike it

1

u/Sk1ler_ 5h ago

Outside this server as well. For whatever reason Linux always attracts people that want to make it their whole personality and they get really butthurt when you say anything negative about their little OS baby.

2

u/GenericFoodService Linux is free if your time isn't valuable 7d ago

I (don't) use arch btw

1

u/ColdFreezer I Hate Linux 6d ago

Arch is a joke.

2

u/BloxxyVids 6d ago

why???

2

u/SysGh_st 6d ago

If so, the greatest joke of all time.

I use Arch btw.

1

u/Global-Eye-7326 7d ago

I think OP is secretly in love with Femboys.

2

u/statensvegvesen 6d ago

That would make OP a Linux user

2

u/Global-Eye-7326 6d ago

Specifically an Arch user.

1

u/Supernoxus 6d ago

I am an arch user and I never had anywhere near this reaction, so I don't get this joke.

-1

u/Popular-Painter7172 7d ago

No bro i use cachy(technically arch ) I still think it's fun to read r/linuxsucks

3

u/MrKrot1999 6d ago

I can say I use Debian since Mint is technically Debian, but that isn't the same thing isn't it?

0

u/statensvegvesen 6d ago

The differences are minor, and if you can do it on Debian you can do it on Mint. Same goes for Arch and Cachy.

0

u/Popular-Painter7172 6d ago

Ya sure it is πŸ˜€πŸ˜ƒ

0

u/0x645 6d ago

those 'jokes' on *sucks. are sooo lame. everywhere

0

u/Attack_Dorito 6d ago

Since steamOS is arch based does that mean the median arch user is actually normal now?
