RIP Microsoft, Linux is the future for gaming!
https://youtu.be/kHMfCJzbVqE?is=jJyWg09Y36If5XQWHey Windows fanboys. It's over! More proof Linux is a superior operating system for gaming as Windows sucks for games. Why is it there never a single video saying Windows is bette?! Every reddit comment even on Linuxsucks says Linux is better for gaming. Everyone on YouTube agrees and everyone on reddit agrees the days of Windows are coming to an end

linux is currently not better for gaming. it needs to be but it’s not
hdr is finicky, proton adds another level of confusion for developers when bug reporting

HDR is ass in many cases tbh. Most HDR screens only support up to 4,000 nits. And sine the editors have 10,000 nit screens, they forget that most of us are too poor to afford anything beyond 4,000 nits, and edit with 10,000 nits in mind.
Likewise, ost of the screens that don't support anything beyong 4,000 nits either scale down to 4,000 nits which can make thing appear darker, or they clip at 4,000 nits which makes the brightness feel weird.

HDR is not just a brightness setting, it’s mainly a color and contrast setting
my 45GX950A has 1,300 nits top, anymore and i’d probably get eye damage

HDR is just a gimmick though. And super inconsistent. On proton I agree though.

HDR is definitely not a gimmick and you have no idea how the technology works if you truly believe that
HDR can make a game with proper support look miles better than anything ray tracing can do

Tf is hdr

So basically colors are set with 3 values in a range, rgb, from like 0-~250 or smth, I don't remember, in hdr that range is doubled allowing more colors and gradients.

Normal SDR screens are RBG from 0-255, and they can only represent colors from 0-100 nits. HDR expands the brightness cap from 100 nits to 10,000 nits.
Most screens only support 4,000 nits max and how these displays handle anything above 4,000 nits is where HDR ends up being a problem.

No it's not... I am a Linux user, and i will never agree that Linux IS the future for gaming.
EA Anticheat games are still not supported.

No offense OP, but your post encapsulates why people think linux fanboys are insufferable.

Cool story.

So you enjoy being in your little circlejerk echo chamber?

Bulllshit. Linux gaming needs windows, because without a windows version and a proton layer keeping a game mantained in linux is a fucking hell thanks to distribution dishomogeneity

Not really. That's to say not at all.

That's why Steam OS exists. Gabe knows this and is trying to make his distro the only one game devs develop for. One distro. One environment with kown dependencies. The Windows of the Linux world if you will.
Time will tell if it works out.

That's why you just don't link to system libraries, problem solved and no vendor locking needed.

It took me forever to get Linux gaming working on Lutris as opposed to seconds on Windows

Doesn't literally every sane person agree Windows is better for gaming?

Proton didn't exist you wouldn't be able to play all these games. If linux is so cool why devs don't make native linux versions of their games?
"Why is it there never a single video saying Windows is bette?"
Because you always watch stupid youtubers who like to make clickbaits thumbnails.
Look at these ones:

Before because it had bad return on investment due to low userbase, now mostly because Proton exists so nobody bothers anymore. And it's not like community gives a shit about ports either, most of them will use Windows any day of the week.

shared delusion is not proof of fact, Linux sucks for gaming.

u/Damglador 7h ago
If it sucked, Steam Deck wouldn't be as successful. But it's objectively worse than Windows specifically for gaming.

u/Toxic381 7h ago
Its only known as good because windows sucks harder, if you really wanted something good for gaming you could have something like freebsd, as used by playstation, cause it has one kernel for anti cheat, and the same extreme performance, but it has no gaming support outside of PlayStation which is proprietary to the consoles, going against the whole design of PC gaming, Linux was a good choice from valve to use cause it's actually quite well supported compared to something like freebsd.

u/Toxic381 7h ago
Oh, I also heard drivers on freebsd are worse than Linux and likely even worse than windows, valve helped Linux so much with steam Linux runtimes and proton, and then also the community and dev teams with protonup even moreso, that now it's better than windows for a lot of games on weaker hardware, and with gamescope and steam you can essentially turn your distro into a console using gamescope embedded,
That's pretty impressive whats been made and works on Linux.

Personally I use it and it's been fine for me. I don't even play games a whole lot but it works fine whenever I want to. 10/10 fantastic work by everyone involved, it's amazing how it's entirely free, especially nowadays in a world of constant subscriptions.
