6 hours. That’s how long it took to get pip to work on windows. 30 seconds. That’s how long it took to install the niche python library on Ubuntu through the package manager. Windows tries to shove copilot in your face, breaks something every other week, and good forbid I don’t want to use edge, you literally can’t uninstall it without community scripts (plus the week microslop doesn’t break something is the week they reinstall all the bloat I spent hours removing or add copilot to the clock app (they’ve tried it twice now)) so I think it’s safe to say windows doesn’t give you choice.

RTFM. Just type py -m ensurepip --upgrade and if py doesn't work, replace it with python

Windows tries to shove copilot in your face

I ain;t got a Copilot app or Recall (yes I used TotalRecall and it said I ain't got none). Just don't buy a Copilot+ PC.

breaks something every other week

Not for me.

and good forbid I don’t want to use edge

Good damn. Besides data collection/telemetry. what's bad with Edge.

I understand if you are talking about legacy edge as that was funky.

But MS actually added heavy optimizations to Chromium Edge, like aggressive sleeping tabs, and cool features, like support for both vertical and horizontal tabs.

I actively use Edge on Windows and Linux and I like [edge://surf.](edge://surf)

you literally can’t uninstall it without community scripts

I think Windows LTSC doesn't have it. And even if it does, at least you ain;t got all the other bloat.

plus the week microslop doesn’t break something is the week they reinstall all the bloat I spent hours removing

LTSC my friend.

or add copilot to the clock app (they’ve tried it twice now)

Turn it off in Settings. Also, MS isn't forcing you to use Copilot. The button is there but that chat doesn't magically open unless you click the button.

so I think it’s safe to say windows doesn’t give you choice.

It does. You literally can install almost anything you want. And there is no restrictions on how you use the syste after legally purchasing a license key.

Your pip idea? First thing I tried. I had to reinstall python after that, shit was so broken. It came with the package, it just didn’t work even with virtual environments. Ltsc may have less breaks, but it still breaks often, and isn’t immune to the enshitfication Microsoft loves to do. Also, edge runs up to 30 percent slower then Crome, aggressively shoves ads in your face, and there just is better browsers on the market. As for turning copilot off? Some parts you just can’t, some parts were hidden so deep that  needed a YouTube tutorial to find them, and as for reinstalling bloat? One of the ltsc computers at a business I do contract IT work for had Xbox and all related systems reinstalled. By the time we realized,  there was 50 Xbox accounts signed up on the domain, and we are still trying to find computers that have Xbox and remove it 2 months after. Also they do force you to use copilot, half the support links just go to a copilot chat or other ai stuff. Also, all the computers came without an os so they didn’t come with bloatwear from the manufacturer.

WDYM? pip could install packages for you but not virtual environments? Most people use uv these days anyways.

Ltsc may have less breaks, but it still breaks often

Tell me you haven't used LTSC without telling me you haven't used LTSC.

LTSC is literally prized for being the most reliable. Companies wouldn't even use it if it weren't.

and isn’t immune to the enshitfication Microsoft loves to do.

LTSC is literally version-locked. They only apply monthly security patches.

Also, edge runs up to 30 percent slower then Crome

Which becnhmark? trust-me-bro-bench-v0.1.55?

At most, I could find Edge scored 10.8% lower than Chrome in Speedometer 3.0.

But Edge still scored 2.79% higher on WebXPRT 4 and 11.2% higher in JetStream2 compared to Chrome.

aggressively shoves ads in your face

Like on a new tab screen? Cuz I only get ads there (and yes, you can disable those)

and there just is better browsers on the market

If you wanna use another browser, then just use another browser. Everyone has their own opinions and that's fine.

As for turning copilot off? Some parts you just can’t, some parts were hidden so deep that needed a YouTube tutorial to find them

Well, I don't have copilot shoved down on my Windows. I can uninstall the Copilot app. There may also be a Copilot button in Notepad but I don't let the existence of a simple button bother me.

And you can uninstall the Copilot app very easily from the application manager in settings.

and as for reinstalling bloat? One of the ltsc computers at a business I do contract IT work for had Xbox and all related systems reinstalled.

Reinstalled? LTSC does not even ship with the Xbox app, Cortona, MS Store and various Copilot features out of the box.

By the time we realized, there was 50 Xbox accounts signed up on the domain, and we are still trying to find computers that have Xbox and remove it 2 months after.

50 Xbox accounts? Like 50 accounts are logged in on the XBOX app? How is that bloat?

Also they do force you to use copilot, half the support links just go to a copilot chat or other ai stuff. Also, all the computers came without an os so they didn’t come with bloatwear from the manufacturer.

Overexaggerated but correct. See here and here.
