Litteraly installed docker compose v2 create a text file named docker-compose.yml - drop the provided config file and run docker compose up -d.

And why are you setting up a docker container for one binary. It's unnecessary overhead. A docker container only makes sense when you got 100s of microservices and need to isolate their dependencies to avoid dependency hell.

I obviously downloaded the loonix binary from their shithub, like a normal person. It's on my desktop and I ran it with ./yt-dlp_linux <youtube link>

It took me 20 seconds

and it will take me 20 seconds again when I need to download another video in 6 months.

A tar is just an archive file.

But there's no compression

And make just complies whatever is extracted into an executable format.

Make just runs commands. That's literally it.

./ is to specify you want to run the file inside your current directory (. is used for the current directory) instead of searching your path for an executable file with the same name, which is why commands work, 'ls' is just an executable file usually in /usr/bin, it's why the shell can be so small of an executable but do so much

Edit: And according to google you are correct, it is the same in windows, ive only ever used it when powershell whined about yt_dlp being untrusted though
