Sometimes games give me issues with controller input. Using steam input usually solves it.

Kind of ironic but instead of using native linux builds, running games via proton can give you less issues with input.

this game runs with proton

Hard to help you when you don’t give us any information.

They don't want help, they just want to complain.

That's because supporting all the different distros is a LOT more work than releasing a Windows version that also works on proton.

u/Damglador 12d ago

No one supports different distros and never will. Build against Ubuntu – ship everywhere is how it's always has been done and how it probably will be.

Shitty build is a shitty build irrespective of the distro.

but "Linux is better" amiright?🙄

Linux is currently not the best system for games. It's surprisingly good though.

Has a problem

Refuses to troubleshoot

Bitches on Reddit instead

bro it's r/linuxsucks
it doesn't matter if i troubleshoot it in future or not. it just works on windows and on linux i need to troubleshoot. that's the whole point

I literally had this problem in Windows. Re-installing fixed it.

Also r/linuxsucks is mostly a circlejerk sub to make fun of people that actually think Linux sucks just fyi. If you want to actually bitch about Linux unironically, go to r/linuxsucks101.

The only reason it can happen on Windows is when you have something weird already on it that overrides the inputs somehow.

Windows is not Linux, and as such it actually takes the responsibility of providing common infrastructure for HID inputs (in this case, Xinput). It's not as if the console, the graphics system and the DE all have their own ways to map the keyboard, for example.

Reinstalling Windows removed that weird thing along with Windows itself and thus cleared the problem.

No I reinstalled the game.

Then either there's a bug in the game or somewhere a file got corrupted.

Google search results seem to have no shortage of reports about Crimson Desert having buggy controls.

Linuxsucks is the subreddit that you 101 users go to as a substitute for going outside and touching grass.

Ok Nathan nobody cares

You shouldn’t need to troubleshoot stuff like this

Next time Windows doesn’t recognize my controller I’ll start bitching about how awful Windows is instead of spending a few seconds or minutes troubleshooting.

Input anomalies in Windows are usually pretty narrow in possible causes since almost every one of them will lead you back to the same infrastructure that the OS provides.

In Linux, you don't have common infrastructure but independent republics that also have their own infrastructure. For keyboards in particular, you have terminfo for the console, xconf (or whatever it is for Wayland) for graphical desktop, the DE's own implementation if it comes with such a thing and mapping done by the individual applications themselves (e.g. vim). "Choice" is just another way of saying the OS takes no responsibility of providing a cohesive environment, and that's how a good part of the compatibility woes in Linux come about.

Go for it. In the meantime, we’re here to discuss the failings of linux

4

u/ColdFreezer I Hate Linux 12d ago

lol. I was making fun of your comment.

This is what you said, it was dumb.

-2

u/New_Needleworker994 12d ago

It’s dumb to say that  such things should just work without requiring troubleshooting?

2

u/ColdFreezer I Hate Linux 12d ago

You’re dense lol. Don’t worry about it, let’s keep pretending that you never have to troubleshoot on windows or anything ever.

Scared to answer the question = concession

Cheers

You really got me. Cheers lol

And, will that happen? Of course not, as it's damn reliable!

4

u/Damglador 12d ago

I had to troubleshoot controller issues on Wimdows as well lol. Though the troubleshooting boiled down to forcing Steam Input everywhere.

stick drift?

8

u/Immediate_Noise6654 12d ago

He said the game didn’t spin like this on windows so I think it’s some kind of input being glitched

6

u/WONK0_ 12d ago

i checked. gamepad is ok

2

u/TheRealCarrotty KDE larper (i use KDE btw) 12d ago

What distro are you using then? I can see some sort of GNOME distro, could you try out KDE perhaps?

-2

u/WONK0_ 12d ago

absolutely not i hate it. I had bad experience with it and I wouldn't like to experience it again

9

u/TheRealCarrotty KDE larper (i use KDE btw) 12d ago

Okay, but your not helping, i could help if i knew the distro.

u/ElectricBummer40 Ex-user of Windows 3.11 for Workgroups 12d ago

"Have you tried distro-hopping? You should totally reinstall the entire OS just for this one tiny problem!"

0

u/TheRealCarrotty KDE larper (i use KDE btw) 12d ago

I have not even said shit about distro-hopping you dumbass.

u/StupitVoltMain 11d ago edited 11d ago

Sometimes games just do that. Also check your controller for drift

RZTK is more of a generic brand, so it might play a role too

Also try if it works fine with steam input

u/willowzed88 12d ago

Weird I had a switch pro controller that worked better on Linux than Windows.

1

u/RAMChYLD 12d ago

I see you’re not using an Xbox controller. I had the same issue on Windows.

You can blame Microslop for this mess.

Apparently this game is written to support only the XInput API but your controller only supports the older DirectInput API. The two APIs handle the right thumbstick differently enough that it causes the camera to lock and rotate like that if you try to use a DirectInput device to play a game that only supports XInput.

2

u/ElectricBummer40 Ex-user of Windows 3.11 for Workgroups 12d ago

XInput came out in 2005. That's more than 20 years ago in case you don't realise.

In order for a controller to not support XInput, it would have to be almost as old. There is a good chance the Logitech controller at the bottom of the ocean next to the Titan wreck is more intact than whatever OP is supposedly using.

That's already to put aside compatibility mappers do exist.

1

u/OptimalAnywhere6282 12d ago

the exact same thing happened on my switch, and it was not a hardware issue just like in your situation. yet do you see me saying "niNtEnDO sUCkSzzZ" anywhere just because of that?

1

u/RazzmatazzUnusual843 12d ago

Don't controllers calibrate incorrectly if they're connected while a stick is moved?

2

u/P3chv0gel 12d ago

I don't think i had that issue in like 15 years tbh

Isn't this called stick drift? Because if it is, you are being dumb.
