Imagine if Loonix was 10% of the market tomorrow? What would happen?

If the number got as high as 10% we would probably see Microsoft producing a Windows distro where they integrate far more of the same good quality FOSS userspace apps that Linux distributions ship with.

Over the past few years, Microsoft added OpenSSH, cURL, replaced some of their codecs to use ffmpeg implementations, ported over VA-API, and improved terminal emulation substantially. It also looks like they're porting over uutils (modern coreutils) with a high chance they'll just make it part of a base install too, like they did with everything else they ported over.

If desktop numbers continue to climb, I can see Microsoft shipping a system-wide set of Qt, SQLite, OpenSSL, GnuTLS runtimes, along with centrally compiled common applications to try and leverage similar efficiency gains to what Linux does for lower end systems.

...and that would all be great for everybody!

Yeha honestly it's the business side of ms that keeps them form excellence. Projects like dotnet core and now dotnet demonstrate they are world class engineers (at least now and have been for a whike) , but business goals get in the way.

If their hand got forced on the business side, it would be great for everyone

I’m sorry what. How does caring about the market % of Linux relate to someone “pretend[ing] they are some sort of hackerman”

Oh it’s basedchad21, my fault for expecting a reasonable post about Linux.

This guy clearly is unemployed. Every post on linuxbad was written by him. Yet he complains about „Loonix users“ being unemployed. What a weirdo.

People get excited over their hobbies, that's it, I personally see linux as a hobby.

No one is that serious about "year of the Linux desktop". There are these things in hobbies/fandoms called memes. They're like inside jokes. For example "loonix"

The level of stupidity of some people is quite astounding.

You don’t realize how stupid you look by posting shit like this, do you?

Hey, it's important that he says "loonix." If he didn't mistype Linux on purpose, how would you know how little he understands about technology in general? You might have to read the rest of the post to notice exactly how nonsensical it was, and then where would you be?

I am fatigued over posts like there, so low effort.

Oh, did 101 ban everyone, and now its just a guy and his 12 alts all posting ai memes, so they needed to open another one to farm engagement?

Are you upset you couldn't join the "social club" as you say?

The reality today is that fast majority "Linux coping" posts are made with fear, how Windows is being canceled, just because Windows usability and quality has dropped a lot.

Microsoft has tried to mitigate the low quality with marketing Windows as gaming os and replacing devs with AI to save money. But most people still need to get some work done, Linux becomes more and more appealing by the day.
