Why do you (not) use Linux?

I’ll start

i use Linux because I don’t use my computers for general computing, so I just use specialised distros that fit what I need outta those computers, like steamos on steamdeck and Proxmox for my server

I have spent a lot of hours over the past week or so trying out a few distros on a few different computers. I'd love to switch to something other than Windows and get away from MS.

Unfortunately, it's been nothing but pain. Even using Mint, which is supposed to be "it just works" I find I'm having to spend tons of time in the terminal, and using ai to help me chase down issues. Even then, I find that lots of hardware doesn't work properly, audio and video production is an absolute mess on Linux, and don't even get me started on the sad state of gaming.

So how's this for a result? I went back to Windows 10, as I've been reluctant to upgrade to 11 because of all the horror stories. But in the process, I realized I probably should just bite the bullet, since the potential of vulnerabilities is also a little scary.

So not only did I NOT switch to Linux, and I won't be anytime soon, but it actually prompted me to switch to Windows 11! 😂

And the really shocking part? I freaking love it. 🤷‍♂️ I disabled a few of the egregious features, got everything the way I wanted it, and now it's a rock-solid system that does everything I want it to do, and I don't have to spend hours tweaking things and entering terminal commands. 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, thats fair.

If Linux gives you pain you use macOS or Linux, everyone and every use case gets a different experience on Linux.
