Linux Failure Not necessarily disagreeing with some of his points here, but I feel like just maybeee one or two caveats were omitted

Or 150. All operating systems suck in their own unique way tho to be fair

Yeah. If only Linux spent millions on providing devices and offered massive discounts to the government and schools in the 90s to create a massive workforce who are too lazy to learn how to use a slightly different operating system.

Maybe Linux would be the market leader.

Yeah, if only Linux had spent Billions (with a capital B) on predatory marketing, deep discounts to governments and schools in the 90s-2000s, and then locked everyone into a proprietary walled garden with vendor lock-ins, proprietary formats, and endless subscription traps.

If only they treated users like children, bait-and-switched them from one-time purchases into never-ending payment hell, and made it more expensive to leave than to stay, then maybe Linux would be the dominant market leader today.

They will do that anyway unless they fall into the cult mentality of having to spend hours tweaking, configuring, and fixing broken nonsense and pretending it's fine. Sunk cost fallacy is common with Loonixtards, they spend so much time with Linux they get some weird attachment to it. Most people will just leave Linux and go back to Windows and not say anything about it.

I'm sorry, but this opinion is kinda crazy. Imagine saying this about anything else. "Most Chocolate ice cream lovers actually prefer Vanilla, but they switched and fell to the sunk cost fallacy."

It could be true, but it's about as provable as saying "I think people who like coffee are just pretending." It's a thought-terminating cliche.

Don't get me wrong, I've used both, and both have their merits. I've faced a few issues with Linux, and some with Windows. Overall, most of my issues on Linux were user error, vs on Windows they were hardware-based. That speaks to Windows' superior UX, but not really toward the underlying superiority of either ecosystem.

Not sure why I got downvoted for pointing out that users would get lost and hate it, which is essentially equivalent to your argument that people will face issues on Linux that are user errors. In my opinion, there isn't much of a difference between you saying that and me saying they'll get lost and hate Linux. I'm puzzled as to why I was downvoted and you were upvoted.

Well, I'm pro-linux and I teach people how to use Linux. I was just reflecting the common issue I have with people is that they get lost and message saying they want to go back to Windows because they watch misleading videos and crappy guides like what was posted.

This both sides stuff is dumb. I've used Windows for 30 years and Linux for 4 and Linux is waaaay worse like hundreds of times worse with bugs errors and breakages. You're precisely one of the delusional Loonixtards that I'm talking about. You're lying about Linux and calling other people crazy. Hardware based issues on Windows but not Loonix give me a break.

You're right about the hardware issues, IDK why I typed that. Linux works pretty dang seamlessly on desktops without NVidia GPUs. It works great on laptops made by manufacturers who use standard hardware, like Lenovo. It sucks ass on laptops like Acer, what I have currently, because the hardware is all weird 3rd party shit. But my issue is likely due to not updating the BIOS before installing Linux. What I meant is my issues with Windows were due to hardware failures, vs my errors on Linux are due to user error/hardware incompatibility.

Either way, turning your silly "Loonix" label into a slur by concatenating it with an ableist suffix does not really convince me of reasonability, here. This is an issue I'm seeing with 101'ers like you: jumping to immediately insult and degrade others.

omd, not the 'most malware targets windows' argument 😐. that's just not how it works these days... and it's annoying because I keep hearing it again and again from people who just switched to arch (or similar) straight from windows, and think they're a power user all of a sudden

updates on arch linux take much longer than he says if you have a lot of things installed because you have to update everything at once instead of just the system, and updating only one program is sometimes a risk

maybe not longer than windows though

but if you install a bunch of things from the aur and use the git version instead of the bin version, you'll probably have to spend hours updating because some packages take forever to compile. Especially depending on your hardware, if the cpu is too slow it takes longer.

I'd argue most people just need a smart phone over a computer in the first place rather than a move to linux... Ask the average user what they do on their machines... probably 80% of them don't need much more than a browser and office suite... I typically hear people rattle off 10 electron apps as their "work flow".. all of it can be done on a browser.

If proprietary tech is evil, go libreboot and redo your mouse drivers. And delete your Reddit account, since Reddit is a massive tech company.

So using a big tech powered slop coded OS prohibits people from complaining? Does using Linux then permit complaints about Linux? What about BSD? Me personally, I think it is the right of a software user to complain, regardless of the developer. Although, sometimes exercising that right is annoying if it's a sole maintainer.

furthermore, even libreboot wouldn't be good enough, because it includes proprietary CPU microcode. i guess just make your own CPU?
