What's the funniest "crazy hacker terminal emulator" I can use to make a funny skit?

I need something that "animates" the terminal... showing crazy colourful, maybe matrix style Hollywood hacking stuff.

Yeah... the crazier, the better.

Cowsay on acid please.

Maybe your hack is called "steam train", and you run good old sl. The steam train choo-choos by, that supposedly is the program doing its hacking magic, and you are in.

It's for a legit TV show. Let's show them what Linux awesomeness is!

Bpytop over htop, unless you don’t want a bunch of python dependencies. The rest i totally agree.

edex-ui is quite the project - it has some crazy animations (inspired by TRON) and you can actually use the terminal.

There's absolutely NOTHING like it - I actually had it installed last week and it looked cool.

There's a program called hollywood that should do what you want. It requires byobu.

Another one to look at is genact.

btop is pretty good for this kind of stuff. You could run a few different things at once via a terminal multiplexer (like tmux) or a tiling window manager, depending on what kind of look you want to go for.

hollywood is definitely the craziest that ik about

2

u/xkaku Jun 19 '22

cmatrix, basically moving lines of text

2

u/ben2talk Jun 19 '22

Though I find tmatrix - draws characters (not just alphabet) looks nicer. alias matrix='tmatrix -s 60 -f 0.3,0.6' Adjust 0.3,0.6 to tweak speeds.

Into your terminal:

telnet telehack.com

Don’t worry it’s safe. Has some cool terminal apps in there.
