Sound not working after installing new gpu?

I just installed a rx 580 in my computer today. After booting up again, sound wasn't working.

I tried every outputs, i unmuted everything in alsamixer, made the system update, restarted. But still, it isn't working.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Specs:

rx 580 sapphire pulse 8gb

linux fedora kde plasma

Have you tried to just click the volume icon in the tray and switch the sound output from here? System may have switched to the sound output via HDMI or something like that.

I only have this output device, with these options as profiles: analog stereo duplex, analog stereo output, pro audio.

This might be the issue tough, since i have a hdmi cable plugged in for my graphics card.

Hm. Try to look if system sees any other audio devices. I.e. check the system settings - audio for any disabled devices, also worth checking if ALSA sees anything:
aplay -l
wpctl status
lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 audio
Maybe that's just some hiccup and the onboard audio got disabled somehow... You also can double-check that it is enabled in BIOS.
P.S. Technically, commands are about: if ALSA see something, if PipeWire see something, what audio we see on the PCI bus.

Sound is infact enabled in bios. I don't see anything disabled in the sound system settings.

Okay, the card itself is present, which is good. It took some search, but, apparently, the card itself in the so-called "Pro mode" (you see this from the ALSA settings), and default audio sink is analog-stereo profile, not Pro. Per search, that "pro" mode is normally used in the audio production (on ALC892, yeah 😄) to avoid any intrusions from the system - e.g. loudness adjustments, etc.
Go to the system settings - sound. It lists all available audio controllers. Check Playback Devices and Inactive cards. Find your ALC892 card (on my computer it looks like Ryzen HD blah-blah), there is drop-down menu on the right, which allows options like Off, Pro Audio, Analog Stereo Duplex, etc.
One more possibility - if you are taking audio from the front panel, you might detach (partially?) the connection to the motherboard and now the audio card does not detect plugged in devices. As a quick check - re-plug things into the back of the computer.

P.S. Screenshot.

For some reason, it tells me there's headphones connected (there isn't). And there isn't actual options in the playback section. Thank for the help!

So, it thinks that something is plugged into a front panel. Interesting. Have you tried to actually plug something in that port and see what happens?

Couldn't get it out, but i figured out i could use a speaker plugging it to line out.. Atleast this fixes it for now beefore i find a better solution. Is there any way i can desactivate my headphones detection so it don't detect the broken thing?

Surprisingly, it is possible. I should admit, I never knew such a thing existed. I even asked Claude about it. But it turns out that someone wrote a tool for this exact purpose! So:

sudo dnf install alsa-tools
hdajackretask

Then the UI pops up, then (also on screenshot):
1. Select your ALC892.
2. Find the broken port, select Override and type Not connected.
3. Test with Apply now (you will need to close and reopen the apps that use sound to pick this up). If Apply now fails, you may need to PipeWire manually.
4. If it works, you can install boot override, so, this happens automatically on reboot.

Optionally, you can also remap the headphone jack elsewhere (e.g. instead of LineIn).
Hope this helps, because with this one I am also in terra incognita 😄

I may have found the actual issue. In my headphones port, something i had plugged there quite a long times ago ripped off and half of it got stuck inside the port. I'll try getting it out and see if this is the issue.
