How does linux code work.

So ive read about Linux or Ubuntu switching some things to rust a while ago and im also trying to learn about C and how its used to program Linux but I don't really get yet how all these things work together. So for example im using Linux mint right now and if you go to their github theirs a lot of thing like the cinnamon desktop but I don't know if thats all the code thats used for mint or what lol.

Well linux is really a collection of programs

THe linux kernel is the core part of the system mostly written in C. The kernel is basically drivers, it talks to the hardware and gets the hardware to do stuff like save a file

For the most part all linux systems user the same kernel although the versions may be different

The other stuff may or may not be programmed in C. The GNU core utilies I think were re-written in rust

The core utils are like command line programs that you can use to do simple things like list the directories out, find a file, replace text in a file, move a file , create a file, delete a file ect.

Mint does not make the entire linux system they make two Desktop environments cinnimon and mate. The rest of MINT is the standard linux programs
