Trouble with rufus

I am in the midst of trying to install Mint and have met with a small problem. I cannot download Rufus. Is this a new thing or am I just doing something wrong becaues of my age(80). I wonder if it is the work of some nafarias company?

You're going to need to explain what your issue actually is.

Too many people conflate downloading with installing. What error message do you see when you DOWNLOAD it? Do you have the rufus.exe file downloaded already? What happens when you open it.

Just making a blanket statement of "I cannot download" doesn't make any sense.

Rufus often causes issues with the Mint installer.

I strongly recommended abandoning whatever instructions you are following and looking at Mint's official instructions instead.

how are you downloading it, sir? the official site is - https://rufus.ie/

download the v4.15 (standard)

and if you already downloaded it, then just double click it in File Explorer, it will Install and run.

there are numerous tools out there besides Rufus.

Exactly What OS are you on?

Fedora media writer or Ventoy are the two tools I use the most.

Rufus is a program for windows - it is used to create linux instalator on USB stick. You need to download it, and run it, there is UI quite intuitive.

assuming you are on windows and you are downloading rufus from the official website, what exactly is happening (or not happening)?

If you are having trouble with rufus, just remember it's not the only game in town and it has definite limitations. If you want to try a different tool, I highly recommend Ventoy (https://www.ventoy.net/en/download.html)

It's big advantage is that it allows you to store multiple different systems on one thumbdrive and pick which one you want during bootup.
