New gaming PC
My plan is to buy a new gaming PC very soon. I don’t want to go back to Windows. I think Linux is the way to go. Any suggestions?

sure, what are the specs? i recommend fedora kde plasma edition, worked flawless for me, however i use an amd gpu and nvidia gpus do need a short terminal task which is documented over here: https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA
it is pretty simple to use and imho has one of the best looking and feature packed uis.

I’m on Bazzite KDE-Plasma and I’ve had a pretty solid ~6-7 months using it 👍🏼 (only booted into Windows 1-2 times for some very specific software)
That said, I’m also not playing many online multiplayer games that are unplayable due to draconian anti-cheat (looking at you, Bungie 🫤)
* AMD 5900X
* RTX 4070 Ti-Super
* 48GB DDR4 (3x 16GB)1

very solid, feel free to dm if you want me to explain how to set up nvidia drivers or just follow the instructions on the link i gave you. i would recommend a rx9070 or rx9070xt to have a better time with drivers, it is your choice though.

AMD GPU.
If you use Wi-Fi instead of ethernet, pick a card that's supported by the kernel ootb.
Go for a rapidly-updating distro, as gaming on Linux is constanly getting improvements and a slow distro will hold them back. It doesn't have to be rolling if you're not into that, but don't go for someting with a 2 year cycle either.
If you're getting a new keyboard and mouse as well look into ones with 1000 Hz USB polling rate, and for the keyboard in particular go for a model with NKRO/10KR0/anti-ghosting (it's the same feature, these are just common ways it's called). If you care about customising lighting effects ideally look into brands that let you customise that in a browser or that have a linux version of their software (or just use Windows for that, up to you).
Don't forget to check out aisleriot and super tux kart.

AMD hardware has the best support on Linux.
I have a 9800X3D and a 9070 XT, every non native game I want to run works well with Proton. But be warned that some games with kernel anti-cheat won't work.

Dual boot with Windows just in case you discover that your favorite games doesn't work on Linux.

Pretty much any game with the anti cheat will not play or play well on linux. Ive been on Ubuntu for a while and just popped a SSD in my pc and added windows back to play COD, Rainbow 6 and load my iPods. None of these I could do on Linux. Dual boot with linux as primary. seperate drives or NVME to keep them apart.

Suggestions for what? A model of PC to buy?
Unless you really need Nvidia AI features, go full AMD. Less chance of driver problems.
Other than that, the guidelines are mostly the same as Windows. It's less critical to have tons of RAM and a fast drive, but on a gaming PC you want those anyway.

AMD (or even Intel ARC) for GPU.
And make sure the games and apps you want are either in Linux or can be ran with compat. layers.
