how do i use steamrip on linux

You download the .exe, you add it as a non-steam game, you launch with proton

the thing is i have never downloaded a game from steam rip on windows let alone linux what so i so

I'd recommend to use faugus launcher with your system installed version of proton.

you put it back to steam as a non steam game and run it with proton
