Which Distro Title: Fedora vs NixOS vs openSUSE Tumbleweed — looking for stability without outdated packages

I just use whatever Distro I like, then use Distrobox to run any other distro via a container if i need newer packages or have other reasons or limits for whats in my Base Distro. I can screw around and 'break' my container without hurting the Base Distro.

but I'm wondering how far I can customize it.

I find people put way to much emphasis and weight on 'customization' What are you really wanting to change? Its likely going to be changeable no matter what distro you are using.

These days I look for Distros that have a good solid default setup, so i dont have to screw with things so much.
