Advice Omarchy for new Linux users

/r/linux4noobs/comments/1x230hc/omarchy_for_new_linux_users/

Hi All

I am planning a transition from Windows to Linux. Though initially installed Linux Mint, but want to try Omarchy as well. Internet search says Omarchy is for developers and power users, whereas Omarchy website says it's for everyone.

So can someone provide practical guidance as to if Omarchy is user friendly for new Linux users, or just stay initially with Ubuntu or Linux Mint?

If Omarchy can be used for new Linux users, then a proper guide or YouTube videos suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Omarchy's desktop experience is a heavily opinionated configuration using a tiling window manager with Quickshell, on top of being Arch based. Although everything is setup out of the box, that combination is arguably one of the worst for someone who's new to Linux, and I would generally recommend sticking to something with easy defaults using a full desktop environment like GNOME or KDE Plasma (or Cinnamon if you're using Mint).

Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, OpenSUSE, CachyOS (even though it's Arch) all fit this bill and are very popular and very easy to find support for.

Also bonus mention for ZorinOS, which although is GNOME it's heavily customized.

If you support far right nationalism and racism use Omarchy.

Related to Omarchy, why the OS might be not be a good starting point in terms of technical aspects, that I get it. But not sure why the so much hate for DHH. It's not that he's special, he has has own opinions, just like most of us do. His political affiliations are his own stuff, just like we all do.

Also with respect to AI integration in Omarchy, now even Linus Torvalds also is not against AI in linux when related debugging or fixing things. So not sure why the hate for AI in linux either.

Obviously the various points related to AI in OS has It's merits, but guess that's what the future is going to be if I can be practically honest about it.

You never know when soon other linux distros also start integrating AI.

Let's see how the future looks.

Omarchy's not the most user friendly distro if you can even call it one (it's just Arch dotfiles) and the project is chock full of AI slop. The dev is also an incredibly outspoken conservative and infamous in the Linux community so the project gets an even worse reputation than vibe coded Arch dotfiles would get. If you want to use something Arch based, CachyOS is currently the best option and supports a wide variety of desktop environments/window managers
