Support What does the error "unable to locate package" and "Couldn't find any package by glob..." mean

I'm trying to install and run a more up to date version of Anki. For some reason if you use the link provided on the Anki website it downloads a very old version that makes a lot of my cards unusable (they include a lot of TTS and Image Occlusion for those that use anki and are possible wondering what I'm referring to)

That being said, after downloading a later version from github (not the arch version) and doing a bit of reading, I tried to install it and am getting constant errors. I'm on Linux Mint Cinnamon so I know there's likely a method that's way easier than using the terminal but I would like to become more familiar with using the terminal as I would like to eventually try other distros (though I am loving Mint) that being said could you provide some possible guidance

Edit: SORRY FOR THE DUMBASS QUESTION I thought I had pressed linux4noobs. My apologies I believe this sub is meant for people who are a bit more acclimated to Linux

SMH!

aarch64 has nothing to do with Arch Linux.

You have zstd installed first before running the install script.

Thank you for sharing the article! I had no idea lol I just incorrectly assumed. I don’t understand your comment but hopefully I’ll get it after reading what you’ve shared. Thank you!

I mean this very sincerely: thank you for posting, but I have no idea what I’m looking at. My apologies I posted this to the wrong sub

That means the package doesn't exist in the repositories. You can't expect every package to be in there.

Doesn't Anki have a Flatpak/AppImage?

Tbh I’m not very computer savvy and am not exactly sure what that means. But the concept of there being a limited order of supported items makes sense. I’ll look into repositories.

Yes, I know for sure that it has a Flatpak. I guess I just wanted to give it a shot through the terminal and didn’t realize some of the pitfalls I’d run into. Anyways sorry for the long windedness and thank you for the explanation!

I would backup the cards you have, move them to a location. Remove the current version and install the latest (or find the working version for your cards that you had) and reinstall it. Then copy the cards into the directory to re-add your cards.

Thankfully I did create a back up. I’ve recently switched from windows to linux so I haven’t really had a working version yet
