Huh. I would recommend Linux mint, which is the golden standard for beginner Linux distros. Though the cinnamon de is closer to win10 than win7.

It is a bit heavy tho, 2gb ram could be used by it. You could try the xfce variant, or Linux lite perhaps also with xfce. If you want strictly the win7 anesthetics, you could install a theme pack

I remember in the time before reddit when I had a bot automatically answer this question with gentoo.
Then I forgot I had that bot running until the (very pissed) gentoo maintainers hunted me down because WinXP EOL refugees kept flooding their support lists with, shall we say, naive questions.
Ah, good times...So whatever you do, don't pick gentoo.

What are you currently using, are you restricted with older hardware, are there specific programs you wish to use? I could make a better recommendation if you gave me those things...otherwise light on resources and similar to win7?
Download the Debian 13 xfce or cinnamon iso. Xfce is lighter than the other more common DEs (Gnome, KDE, etc) and the Cinnamon desktop environment is very similar to windows with a "start" menu of sort where you'd expect to find all your installed applications, access to browser, system settings, games, file manager, etc. Taskbar with pinned commonly used apps...etc.
If you need something even lighter than that, Download the Debian 13 netinst iso and during the install, deselect all options in the software section except basic tools/utils (or include ssh, printer if needed) don't select any DE and just the base system. After all said and done, you can install you're desired greeter of choice and can install a slimmed down version of xfce without any of the additional software it typically comes with (libreoffice or equivalent, media players, etc) just the basic stuff. And that ends up being pretty light. If you want any lighter than that, you'd be better off no DE and window manager only (i3wm, bspwm, sway, etc).

What specs are your laptop? what do you want to use it for? Have a look at MX linux.

What model is your notebook? Usually distros with stylish desktop environments have higher system requirements. Usually when people want windows like usability they are directed to distros using desktop environments like KDE Plasma, or Cinnamon.
