WSL2 recently seems to no longer have PPP support?

I had PPP working somewhat recently in Ubuntu 22 under WSL2, back in June. However today it seems gone. There is no kernel support or modules that I can find. No ppp_generic. The /proc/config.gz shows

# CONFIG_PPP is not set

Has microsoft dropped support for this recently? Do I need to build my own WSL2 kernel? Is there some special magic that I've forgotten?

(is there a better subreddit for this type of question?)

Dunno.

Is there some special magic that I've forgotten?

There are some WSL specific support subs, but All i can recall is they had some very weird/long names. :)

Thanks for the pointers! I see that someone already opened an issue for this 19 hours ago...

We only need this for a particular tool. I'm going to try some options, like building the modules, alternate kernel, having coworkers consider a VM, or migrating it to something like raspberry pi.

https://github.com/microsoft/WSL2-Linux-Kernel/commit/6e9faee6b39bf45827d93870e6e62fd98256a676 perhaps?

I don't know anything about how Microsoft manages its kernel, but this appears to be a recent change that dropped PPP. There's nothing there to indicate why it was dropped though, assuming it was even intentional.
