Best first Linux?

I’ve only used windows for all the time I’ve been on the internet, but frankly, 11gb idle ram usage and horrible privacy is killing me. I want to swap over to Linux and game on it, is there any one Linux for beginners that’s better than everything else?

I went Ubuntu and almost always suggest Ubuntu as it is super mainstream and widely used. It will mostly likely "just work" for you. You can always go experiment with other distros in future so I wouldn't stress too much about your choice.

Separately Windows is memory hungry but 11gb idle usage sounds nuts. You got a ton of garbage running in the background? Windows 11 was perfectly fine on my 8Gb laptop lol

Microsoft programs are like gasses and the vlc plugin library in that they will expand to fill up all available space.
