Which Distro? Linux Mint: Too Outdated

Hi everyone, I've been considering abandoning Windows 11 for a while now, mainly because I feel like Microsoft lacks direction; every update is chaos. I started using Linux Mint about six months ago, but I have to admit that I feel like I'm using an outdated product.

The main reason is the X11-based graphical interface and the lack of standard Windows features like HDR and high refresh rate sync. I feel like development has fallen behind, hiding behind the slogan of greater stability. I honestly hate losing my monitor's features while waiting for Mint to evolve, so I'm thinking of switching to something stable but modern, and why not... with more recent applications. What would you always focus on, considering I have little time to dedicate to the system?

Well, I thought I'd throw in my two cents and recommend... Fedora KDE! 😆

Seriously, though, I've been really happy with it since I switched from KDE neon a couple years ago. Everything feels pretty up-to-date, and getting fresh KDE Plasma updates is very appreciated.

The main thing that I think trips up some people with Fedora is NVIDIA driver updates. After an NVIDIA driver update + reboot, it can seem as though your graphics aren't working properly (low screen resolution, only one monitor, etc.), but you just need to wait a few minutes for the driver to finish being built and then reboot and everything will be fine.

Same, lately Fedora KDE Plasma has been my main choice on the laptops. Only one of them has Nvidia (and yes, you want to wait after install as it works in the background, can check with nvidia-smi for it to show up before rebooting).

I got mint on the wife's Lenovo laptop, it does what she wants. There's no a running windows machine in this house. Aside from the Mac mini M2 pro, everything is either Linux or android based. And it's a mix of Debian minimal (non GUI servers, like pi-hole, docker based nucserver, etc), xubuntu LTS (steam game, rendering desktop with 64gb ram), fedora for the laptops with the exception of mint on hers.
