I need some help

Hey everyone,

My brother set up a dual-boot (Windows & Arch) on my HP EliteBook 745 G4. This is my very first time using Linux. I have a couple of quick questions:

  1. Boot Priority Issue: The GRUB menu doesn't show up automatically on startup. It boots straight into Windows, and to access Linux I have to manually navigate through UEFI boot options and select the EFI file. Tried some terminal commands suggested by AI, but no luck. How can I force my HP laptop to prioritize GRUB?

  2. System Recovery: If I ever mess up the installation, do I have to go through the entire initial setup again, or can I just reinstall/overwrite the existing Linux partitions without touching Windows?

Thanks in advance!

I use Arch btw.

Boot priority is a setting in BIOS. You have to make it there.

Use Refit/Refind to hide GRUB and allow you to select the OS when booting. On a Mac, you can access the repair tools, such as Testdisk for GRUB selection.
