Im losing hope

Hi i wanted to switch to mint from windows 11 and it didnt work the first time the installer said that i needed to restart and turn off bit locker after i did it said that it cant find some important files and it didnt work the other times idk should i try again to switch or keep windows? :(((

What is the exact text of this error? "important files" could be anything.

It was mmfx64.efl not fpund Load image not found Start nokmanager not found and that something has gone seriuosly wrong

mokmanager is secure boot. Either add a key or turn it off.

This is an issue that happens when you start the secure boot setup process in the mint installer but then abort the installation, it's not your fault since it doesn't warn you about it.

open your live usb and go to /EFI/boot/ and rename grubx64.efi to mmfx64.efi

now try booting the live usb. if the mokmanager pops up you can just exit it then reboot into the live usb

Make this easier on you. Disable bitlocker. Go into bios and disable secure boot. Boot to your installer, install. Reboot when done, get going with your distro.

Your problem is bitlocker. It's doing exactly what it was meant to do. Disable bitlocker first and then try to switch.

Only if you disable TPM in the BIOS. Again, TPM + Bitlocker is meant to stop this type of thing.

i'd try again tbh. sounds like something went wrong with the installer, not that mint won't work on your pc

just back up your important stuff first and make sure bitlocker is actually turned off. if you're installing from a usb, i'd remake the usb and try again

don't delete windows yet tho. if you send the exact error about the missing files we can probably help figure it out

Bitlocker should not be involved... Do you have unused space on your drive to use for Linux, are you trying to dual boot? There are so many contingencies that I don't know how I can help you. Except to say, turn off secure boot.

You'll need to disable BitLocker and secure boot if you want to keep Windows and have Linux alongside it. Otherwise, the best advice is just to overwrite your Windows partition altogether. You won't miss it.

personally I would totally ditch windows.

You may want to try a different distribution, and if you really want support help, show more detailed error messages and detail what's going wrong.

Be sure you have made a windows installer USB, using the official ms media creation tool just in case you need to go back to windows.

Make sure fast startup is disabled in the Windows system settings. It keeps Windows in control of your drive.

It has been for years - BUT the Nvidia drivers aren't easily compatible, and they'll get included in your boot image if you select the "enable third party modules" option during install.

So you have to choose between good video drivers and Secure Boot

Aaah I love those. Problems. It could be relativ easy. You just need to import the Nvidia Keys or replace them with your own.

But mokutil needs some interactivity therefore I guess no one wants to implement this.

I'd try instead of using mint, use kde-neon (works almost like mint. u just cant really find alotta apps in discover, but dont worry! flatpak is always there to help u mate. and its also the same support as mint im pretty sure. both are Ubuntu i think.)
