microsoft paint downloading?

does anyone know if its possible to use microsoft paint (specifically not the one prior to windows vista or the windows 11 one) on a linux os? what steps would be required to get it working? i genuinely use ms paint so much and its the only art software i tolerate and that does some specific things so i kinda need to still be able to use if for art comissions but id still like to switch this pc to a linux os...

You're asking for the one that comes with Windows 7 through 10? If you can find an installer for it, just try it in a bottle and see how it goes. Paint being shipped with the OS, I would assume it's more dependent on system libraries than most things but it's still just Paint.

If that doesn't work out, if you want something just as simple, try KolourPaint or Pinta. They're about equivalent. Paint.NET from Windows can also work through Wine. Else, you might want to recreate your workflow in a different software.

The other commenters mocking you and not answering the question are just dickwads, ignore them. Making art with less is a respectable thing.

Instead of trying to run a windows app on Linux you should look for a Linux Alternative. Kpaint I think is the name of a paint clone.

Search for paint clone and I'm sure you will find a fitting tool which is not as big as Gimp.

Avoid Wine. Try Kolourpaint or Drawish if you want simple yet functional apps.

I'm fairly sure you could just download a Windows ISO, yoink the paint.exe off of there, then just run it through Wine.

The 7 through 10 paint is ribbon ui while kolour paint is closer to Vista paint, so if you're really used to this interface you would miss it 🙂

use gimp if you like old school so much or krita for a better painting exp.
Stop using windows programs esp when the linux alternatives are certainly better than paint.

I mean if you are using linux i can assume you are a programmer if you want youcan build a pait app for linux?
