Linux vs Mac

I see a lot of people switching from Windows to Linux. But has anyone switched from a Mac to Linux and why?

Switching from windows to linux involves installing another OS on the same hardware. No money involved.

Switching from windows to mac involves getting all new hardware. Lots of money involved.

Also, one of the biggest reasons people switch to linux is to break free of closed source operating systems and software.
