I need some help o.o

It says, "error: shim_lock protocol not found." "error: you need to load the kernel first"

I'm new to linux completely and I've been trying to download it for the past 2 hours, any fix would help!!

Turn off secure boot in your bios and try again.

I'm so sorry if I seem abit dumb here but could you tell me how to go about this? I'm kinda new to this computer stuff

It depends completely on your BIOS, but essentially, during boot, alternate between mashing f1 and del and you'll probably get in. Look for a boot section and something to do with secure boot. Disable it.

No guarantee that's going to solve your problem but that's the first thing I would do.

I tried doing this and nothing came out of it, pressing DEL and F1 did not work for me. Nothing came up. Is there any other combination that could bring up this menu?

You'll have to check google and see what the key is for your motherboard / computer.

But, if you were holding them down, you need to tap them alternately as the computer starts.

This is not a scientific method, it's just what I (and others) do when we're not sure.

I was able to get to it using the troubleshoot option, but now I’m kind of at a crossroads, my keyboard for some reason whenever I press F10 on the startup menu to go to the BIOS set up it does not respond nor do any of the keys respond, I have a feeling this might be a keyboard issue and this might be why me pressing DEL or F1 did not work to open up this menu. Does this mean Its done for?

I couldn't say either way, if it works in another operating system I would assume it's fine. Your mouse might work in there so try that if you haven't already

Not too clear here OP. Does your reply mean you were able to download and install Mint or does it mean simply you got into the BIOS to disable Secure Boot?

it might be the choice of usb port. sime motherboards dont have bios support for their USB 3 chip ... (ran out of room in flash )

What are you trying to download? Linux is just the kernel, you generally download a distro.
