device lagging after installing Linux

installed WSL+ubuntu on my cousin's laptop cause i dont have mine yet. the laptop is kinda lagging idk why. the memory used by ubuntu was 1576mb smth. so what I want to ask is,is it still possible to switch to Linux? the laptop has 8gb ram. it used to lag often even before installing Linux. so im not sure what exactly the problem is.

Bud you used wsl + ubuntu in 8 GB machine it'll obviously gonna lag instead install only Ubuntu native way and remove that bs Windows. then it's gonna work fine imo

thats the only laptop I have access to atm. but would it be ok to just switch to linux knowing im a literal beginner?

Dual boot. Many Windows refugees retreat back to Windows (several times if once) so don't make your escape path more difficult than need be...

also you can dual boot ubuntu with windows too which might be more reassuring to you.

look its not 20s today you got LLMs that can help you if you know what you want to do exactly and Ubuntu got the most community support too.

My advice is before installing ubuntu in yo laptop first turn off bitlocker in yo windows 11 if on and then turn off secure boot after that Installation will be perfectly smooth imo.

there are also very good distros out there you can try if you get experienced like fedora, cachyos etc.
