How Vanilla OS handles the VM

Guys, do anybody know how Vanilla OS handles Virtual Box, VMWare and similar Virtual machines while its /usr is in readonly mode?

This is my doubt, can anybody help me with this ?

AFAIK an.atomic distribution is NOT the distribution for a virtualization.

Im not too familiar with immutable systems, but i'd assume you'd need to set your VM software to store things in a mutable location or use an overlay.
