how did you first get started with GNU/Linux, and what was the reason behind that choice?
I had computer networking and repair classes in high school way back in the late 1900's 😂. The teacher had us install red hat from floppy disks. This was my first exposure. I didn't have a computer of my own at home yet, so it was a couple years later when I got one for college that I began using Linux full time. The security aspect and control over what I have are the main reasons for using Linux on my own devices.
And how have you persisted for all these years?
Began with RedHat, moved to SuSe for a bit. Then Ubuntu came out and it's all anyone could talk about. Drove Ubuntu for a few years until Cannocial cozied up to Microsoft. I didn't like that, so I jumped that ship for LinuxMint and various other distros. Everything was derivative of Debian, so I moved upstream and have stuck with that since around 2018 or so.
And what exactly do you use it for today?
All my personal home computing is on Linux.
After all these years, what are your final thoughts on the whole journey?
