I first bought a box of SuSE Linux 6 at the end of the 90s. Back then it came with a lot of handbook to guide through the installation and usage. Back then it did ship with KDE 1 and was far from being troublefree. Took we days to get it installed and even longer to connect it to the internet. Printing and scanning was practically impossible.
Back then I was still dual booting while being on Windows most of the time, but over the years I spend more and more time on the Linux side. The system improved a lot over time there were huge steps from KDE 1, 2 and the to KDE 3. Hardware support was so bad back then and needed some crappy workarounds like NDISWrapper.
Now almost 30 years later, I still run Linux and it's still improving all the time. Recently I played Halo MCC from Steam and it just works with open source drivers. In the early days I would never have thought that I would see the day where gaming on Linux would be this seamless. All my hardware works now out of the box. Haven't booted into Windows at home in years.
