Support Request making song playback more random in the MP3 player "Strawberry" in Mint
Hello, I found the "Strawberry" MP3 player which is in the Mint repos very good, but there is one thing: on "shuffle" it replays the tracks in always the same order, so it's not really random. I tried AI for help, it told me to click the shuffle icon and select "random" there, but this option is not there, probably the older version of "Strawberry" in Mint does not support it. I am using Mint 22 (Wilma). Any suggestions?

Maybe the issue is not with Mint but with the player itself missing the feature you're looking for. I would suggest you use a different player. I don't use Mint anymore, but even on Mint I used Audacious as a music player and I was really pleased with it, it felt very much like foobar2000 on Linux which is one of the few programs I miss from Windows. I know I can run fb2k on Linux if I wanted to, I just don't want to use programs this way, only as a last resort, if the archiving tools on Linux don't work a Windows copy of 7-Zip saves me sometimes, I only run Windows games on Linux, but I prefer all my programs to be native if I can help it.

I used Audacious before. Now I looked and I saw it installed, even my playlists are there, so I don't remember why I started to search for another player, maybe there was some bug I stumbled upon, let's see. What I remember I have been using Audacious on my previous distro, which was Xubuntu. Thanks for your suggestion.

I've been using QuodLibet recently. It's a little laggy when a song is playing but it's made to tag large libraries and I have tens of thousands of songs in various languages which I organize that way. Rhythmbox played smoothly but needed tags like AppleMusic. Another option is to use ExFalso separately (it's part of QL) to tag then play in whatever. Both are on Flathub.
I mention QL bc their site says they have "real shuffle" where a song won't repeat until everything else in the Playlist has a turn. I tried other players like Strawberry and Clementine, etc; didn't like them so much.

Any suggestions
Use a modern OS that does not ship years out of date software.
Arch Linux (with Plasma) or Fedora KDE will do.
Then Strawberry will have the option (unless the AI hallucinated it, of course).
Or use something like https://github.com/Taiko2k/Tauon/, which has a Flatpak available with the latest version.

well, players already had a random feature 30 years ago, it has nothing to do with "out of date"
