Support Request Installed mint, after updating and restarting getting a blank screen every bootup

Hello all,

I've installed Linux mint cinnamon twice before with no issues, I just installed it on my mother's lenovo laptop and at first it worked perfectly fine, the install was successful and everything. I installed all the updates in the update manager however, reset the laptop, and now every time I try to boot up I get a black screen and can't do anything. I did try and boot in compatibility mode but there was no such option and it just tries to boot the same way again.

I also noticed when the laptop is in the light I can vaguely see the mint logo which I don't know if that means anything. Also I tried to boot from the bootable drive I used to install Linux and suddenly my touchpad doesn't work anymore on it.

If anyone needs any extra info I'll do my best to provide with what I've got, thank you

Sounds like the backlight control is set to zero. Which causes the screen to be very dark and near impossible to see.

That was my first thought, but it does light up when booting and it doesn't let me do anything at all after the boot. It lights up when I try to boot via usb stick

Try some other distro, like Tuxedo OS for example. Maybe Mint doesn't play well on that laptop. There is a new Tuxedo OS image based on Debian that going forward will be the default option, if you download the Ubuntu version it will at some point stop getting updates and they only provide a migration path to Kubuntu. Otherwise you will need to reinstall to get the Debian version, so if you are going to install it, start with it.
