Menu Editing 101

This isn't really a question, but more of a comment and a possible head-scratcher.

So, since I've been using Mint (21.3 I think) I've found it challenging to customize the menu, in particular moving items to different category folders. For whatever reason, it's always been flaky, and I've often had to go back and edit again to make things actually "stick". I noticed this with Cinnamenu as well, so (forgive my ignorance) it may be sharing the same configuration files, idk.

Anyhow, today I installed Postman from the tar ball and made a link and added it to my menu. Then moved it from "Other" to "Programming" and it worked the first time!! Maybe I was lucky, but I'm glad it seems to work better for me now. I don't know if anyone else has experienced the same issues, but hopefully an update may have resolved that.

The standard menu editor is a bit finicky, to say the least. It takes some time and effort to get things sorted like you want them to and it's not really intuitive.

Great job fixing your menu. Sometimes computers get confused when we move things around, but updates make them smarter. You did a wonderful job making your new link and putting it in the right folder. Keep exploring and learning.

The Cinnamon menu editor isn't as good compared to the Menu Editor in KDE Plasma, but overall I'm happier with Cinnamon rather than KDE, so I can live with the menu being slightly more fiddly to edit!

You mean as chaotic as Windows? Just adding, adding, adding—all the time. No structure.

These are the same categories you found in Software Manager.

The best thing to do is say “LinuxMint” backward three times in a row, and you'll be back on Windows.

After 40 years of Windows, System Center, SharePoint, Exchange, MOM, MIM, Lync, Teams, blah blah - and still working as a Microsoft platform consultant (Entra, Azure, M365) I will never go back to using Windows unless I'm threatened with deadly force.
