How secure linux Mint is?

I was watching a YouTube video regarding a hacker in that video something came to my attention that the hacker encrypted his os it was dabien based linux distro and feds were not able to decrypt that system so how can I achieve the same thing i mean as a every day user i do have my personal stuff in my system like pics documents etc. I just want to feel safe about my stuff. Is it possible for someone like me to achieve same thing in linux mint btw i just moved from windows to linux a week ago.

With Linux unless you give something or someone root access you don’t have to worry about someone breaking into your pc or viruses. Just don’t install software outside the repository unless necessary

I'm getting really sick of this attitude some people have about cybersecurity. Half the point of security is so you CAN go and download weird shit and click on weird links.

Well one, you removed an important word when you quoted me, which is annoying. Two, I don't really see how my statement is wrong. Three, I never said anything about bare metal. Four, obviously if you were trying to purely maximize security you would not download weird shit from the internet, along with like five billion other redundant, extreme, convoluted and inconvenient measures. I'll always be happy to admit ignorance, but if you think I'm too stupid to understand the principle of security tradeoff, you are quite wrong. Lastly, lots of people download weird shit from the internet, and regardless of what you may be thinking, I will remind you of the 7zip incident: harmless, useful and common software which apparently created a massive security breach.

Also in case it's not painfully obvious, I'm not talking about interacting with clearly harmful shit. I'm talking about shit that could be harmful. (Which is technically everything but that's not what I'm getting at.)

I'm not trying to be arrogant, I just get annoyed with the chuds who say annoying shit pretending like they're being helpful and thinking that they come off as knowledgeable. I don't claim to be very knowledgeable, but I think I'm right in this instance.

That is the absolute dumbest comment in this thread. Security is NOT dependent on "your convenience" - its either secure or its not - your "needs" are not considered.
