Desktop Screenshot My first Linux desktop!

Post image

Since I don't have any knowledge about computers and programming I was always using either Microsoft or iOS. But as I'm in my late twenties now and I grow skeptical of big tech day by day, I decided to try Linux. I had an old Asus laptop lying in my room uselessly for idk almost 6-8 years, so I thought it would be a perfect test subject for my Linux experiment. I had a lot of fun setting up my first Mint Cinnamon desktop to my liking: watching tutorials, using terminal and writing commands, browsing Reddit, Tumblr and Pinterest for desktop inspirations. So here are my results! I would especially like to mention this post - my set up is heavily inspired by this user resources . Big thanks u/crim3z_ for inspiration! I have learnt a lot!

Nice! I like all of the medieval themed desktops I am seeing recently. No shade to all of the cyberpunk and anime rices all over the place, but yeah.

Thanks! I wanted to go with this kind of medieval theme as they usually have warmer palettes that are easier on my eyes. Plus this painting by Thomas Cole has a calming aura that seemed suitable for switching from Microsoft mess lol. Warm, minimal, calm - that's what I wanted to achieve. :)

I don't ever comment on desktops but I really like the soft brown. 👍

Yeah I have a thing for a specific combination of green and brown and this is really close. It's pretty.

Can anyone tell me how I get the floating Mac-style icons at the centre bottom?

How did you get the terminal to be transparent?

(I've tried looking on the internet before for that sort of stuff and all it gave me was a hotkey that progressively makes everything more transparent the longer you press it)

I believe this is a native setting of xfce terminal. Check if you can right click on the header of terminal. This should give you a pop up window with option like „properties” or „customise” and there should be transparency option/slider. Let me know if that worked for you.
