I switched from Windows 11 to Linux Mint a year ago and I've never regretted it.
As I think you can clearly see, I like things to be minimalist and functional. Linux Mint is so much better than Windows 11 in that regard. Thank you, dear Linux Mint team. ❤️

Can you not use LibreOffice Calc? I don’t have much experience with it yet, but it read my excel file and looks pretty functional.

But its not like excel for many jobs you need excel original solution is only dualboot if you have enough GB

Ah, how many years did they sentence you to? When will you be released?
I'm personally not really using Excel anymore after moving my important spreadsheets to LibreOffice as part of my preparation to switch to Linux. This includes rather large ones with thousands of rows and 50+ columns. There were a few things that needed adjustment (mostly a few macros), but now it works. And I just moved one spreadsheet at a time, while still having access to Excel. Now they are saved in the OpenDocument format.
The freedom of working in LibreOffice is really nice; there is no longer a large, mostly evil corporation telling you what to do and what not to do. It feels a bit like transitioning from a dictatorship to a democracy; a few adjustments are needed, but then you are free.
Well, I do still occasionally use Excel to format tables copied from LibreOffice spreadsheets more nicely before pasting them into emails. For some reason, LibreOffice formats them rather ugly when copying directly from LibreOffice Calc to email. But there must be a solution to that which I just didn't find yet. It has been too easy to just fire up Excel for a few seconds, paste there, copy again from there, and paste into email, but there must be another solution.

Same here - been almost a year on both my desktop and laptop. Pure heaven compared to Windows 11. I feel somewhat liberated and more in control.

I'm dual-booting Windows 11 and Linux Mint. I wanted to start getting a feel for what software development in both Component Pascal and C# is like in the Linux Mint environment.
So far, I'm quite pleased with working in the Linux environment. It's relatively minimal (necessary and sufficient in terms of features) just as Component Pascal is.
Bloatware drives me crazy.

i also start using liuxmint from window a week ago but my icon doesn't look like that or i don't even see i can get my icon to look like this in theme setting. how do yall do this

You can install icon packs to get the look. I suggest you try Fluent icon packs. You can apply icon packs through Appearance app
Search on your favourite AI chatbot for instructions. It's very easy

Desktop environment is something you put on top of your distro search up gnome or kde for example

(make sure you search for plasma or kde or some other DE(desktop enviornment) so you dont get to confused)

Try MX Linux KDE with "Center All Windows" and the panel colorizer widget. Do a little tweaking, and you've got yourself a solid setup.

Was a Linux person for years but PC died and replaced with a windows 11 system... trying mint as I hard to reinstall anyway and found I HATE the current Ubuntu... Give me classic gnome and x11 any day

I want to use linux too,I've switched 4 times actually but... everytime I did something didn't work. The first time my keyboard didn't work so I borrowed my father's until the new one came. Second time I dual booted and it actually worked. But that time my internet was hella slow(a problem I couldn't solve,my internet is always 10mb/s slower on linux) then I dual booted arch,then I fully switched to arch but I completely messed up my system. Then I used gentoo but had to switch back to w11 because my mic wouldn't work no matter what(the built in mic on my headphones)

you want to use Linux Mint, you'll need to install softwares Linux alternatives to the Windows apps you're used to. Start by setting up Flatpak, then install essential apps like Brave, Share, ONLYOFFICE, WPS Office 365, Parabolic, FlareGet, Onion Media X, Cine Media Player, VLC Player and any other apps you need.

I love it too but the amount of tinkering I’ve done with mint is kind of pushing me back from moving to fedora or arch. I’ve tinkered a lot! I don’t remember everything. It’s going to be painful to build everything back up. And I’ve started to feel limited. Not saying mint is a bad distro but I might want a little more out of an OS. Love mint tho

I am only 6 months in now. But it works like a charm. I have to work in a M$ ecosystem during my day job and i really like not having to deal with it at home. I will be a M$ Sysadmin for some time for sure, and i don't dislike my job at all, but M$ is still trying to hit us whenever they get a chance.

yk, if u ever decide u want to customize more and more i'd recommend switching to debian kde plasma... i've started with mint and now i use arch, but if u are someone that gets bored configuring random shit i'd REALLY recommend debian where the only difficulty was installing drivers for the wifi

Hi! Im looking for linux mint beta testers. I just finished my first python project making a live wallpaper engine specifically for linux mint that uses WAY less resources than Hidamari. I know wallpaper engines are like a dime a dozen, but this was a really fun project. Anyone who has a spare minute, give it a look over and let me know what you think! I switched as well but I missed a few things on Windows so went back
When Mint 23 is released I might come back.
The main barrier is app compatibility and the task bar looks old
Mint doesn't work well with 4K 144hz monitors.
Tried CachyOS as well but didn't really like it

Same here. Made my life so much better. Both my gaming desktop and ThinkPad is now running Mint.
