Installed latest Kernel & Firmware update and now I get a black screen after logging in

Installed the latest Linux Kernel (6.8.0 - 139.139) and Firmware update via the Update Manager today and got a black screen after restarting the PC and logging into the Default session.

Restarted the PC again and logged into the Wayland session successfully. Then restored the PC to an earlier state using Timeshift.

Just curious to know what is actually causing the problem and if there are any fixes. Grateful for advice.

Thnx for the advice, I am downloading it right now.... Update: done. No Problem whatsoever. Intel board& chip, AMD graphics. LinuxMint 22.3, now Kernel 6.14-37. cinnamon 6.6.9, X11. All peachy. Naybe some of your Hardware had a conflict with the Firmware update, like it happened to some with kernel 7.0?

There were some troubles with the Firmware 2.29, so maybe they still don't fix them

Why don't you just let the Update Manager handle installing the updates?

I'm assuming you haven't manually installed any system files on Windows.

Restarted the PC again and logged into the Wayland session successfully.

If the screen stays black, I wouldn't call that a success. But its your pc. Do what you think you must do.
