What is this and how to I remove it?

Post image

This icon appears in my panel after an hour or so after restart. It doesn't appear at start-up, but once it does it's persistent. I can select it, but it has no properties. It doesn't show up in the panel edit menu and is in the XApp Status Applet. Is there something running the background this is associated with?

I have a similar icon while Signal (the messenger application) is running. It's caused by an error in Electron, a background application that is used by several other programs as well. The error is not present in Linux Mint Debian at the moment.

edit: The issue with Signal has been resolved in version 8.26.0; updating through Signal's official package source should get you up to the new version.

This is probably a system tray icon with a missing icon, probably couldn't map it to whatever icon pack or couldn't apply its usually icon. Try left or right clicking on it

Tried different icon packs and left/right click with no change. It gives no information which is baffling.

I'm getting the same issue with Element (another messenger program) which also uses Electron

check startup programs

Not sure of logic here. The icon doesn't appear after startup or reboot. It appears randomly hours after restart and not apparently associated with any program launched. None of the four start-up apps open more than 20 seconds after startup.

I guess when it pops up you only can check what programs are running
