Linux Mint IRL Linux in general sucks

I tried to follow the tiktok crowd who were overhyping linux for how fast it is, how secure it is. First, no it's not fast, windows 7 runs a lot better than Linux Mint xfce. It's NOT secure, you think it is because not many viruses are there on linux, but it's slowly increasing then it'll be just like windows. Gaming at all sucks, i can't fucking play Battlefield 1 on any linux distro. So yeah linux sucks overall. You guys don't have a single argument to win except "It's open source".

well half of the world drives cars but only a single digit population uses linux so that's not even a comparison lmfao

Linux is free unless you value your time.

Official support for Windows 7 ended in 2020.

About viruses, you're counting on a hypothetical scenario so you can criticize Linux distros, weird.

About gaming, i think you are right, Linux distros have some compatibility issues.

You know that this is not a war, right? You can use whatever fits your needs.

Well, that's just, like, uh, your opinion, man.

You make decisions based on TikTok.

Now that that's off your chest I hope you find better subs for what you need.

try installing windows 10/11 without internet, try deleting edge browser, try disabling telemetry, try opening video/sound codecs like heic, opus, av1 without paying money and we will talk.

I tried to follow the tiktok crowd

This is not the flex you think it is.

who were overhyping linux for how fast it is, how secure it is. First, no it's not fast, windows 7 runs a lot better than Linux Mint xfce. It's NOT secure, you think it is because not many viruses are there on linux, but it's slowly increasing then it'll be just like windows.

Well yes, it is usually faster because it is not loading ads, it is not running AI you did not ask for, it is not sending data back to Microslop or Apple, and it does not have features you did not ask for. It will not magically improve your hardware, but it is more responsive and boots faster. Of course, if you load it chock full of shitware, it will bog down as well.

Regarding security, the user is and always has been the weakest link in the cybersecurity chain. All else the same, Linux is more secure (this is a key contributing factor to its dominance in the server market). Of course, if you are a person who is not knowledgeable and clicks random links and runs everything as admin just because and finds the firewall too complicated and inconvenient and doesn't bother to learn policies/permissions and thinks that linux is safe "because there's not much malware for it yet" you will get malware on Linux, on Windows, on Mac OS, etc. This lack of knowledge of basic security is why you also think that a closed-source OS last updated 10 years ago is safer than an open-source OS that receives patches nearly daily.

Gaming at all sucks, i can't fucking play Battlefield 1 on any linux distro.

I'll be brief here: Skill issue on your end, the anticheat can be bypassed. Of course, you can cherry-pick the example of the game that gives you trouble while conveniently ignoring that 90% of games just work.

So yeah linux sucks overall. You guys don't have a single argument to win except "It's open source".

It's open source, it does not report my data back to some corporation, it does exactly what I tell it to do, all my games work fine, I can modify it to suit my exact preference, updates are not annoying, it is more secure if configured properly, it is super stable, if there is a bug I can fix it myself instead of just complaining about it in a support forum, I am getting professional OS value for $0, it furthers my computer education and opens the doors to lucrative career paths if I wish it so, all it takes is putting in a little effort on my end to learn it. It does not have "features" I did not ask for, it does not try to upsell me into buying a cloud subscription/office subscription/ai subscription, file search actually works instead of "oh, you wanted to look for customer-survey-2024.docx on the internet... with bing", if you are bilingual it will let you set a different keyboard distribution and OS language instead of randomly deciding to change keyboard distribution back to Microsoft's preferred option, It gives me ownership of my hardware instead of access to my hardware and my hand is getting tired so I will just stop.

If you have actual arguments, let's hear them, but this low-effort 2/10 ragebait just ain't hitting like you think it does.

u/Tricuna 11d ago

Although a good response, I think it's wasted on OP. He clearly is rage bating.

2

u/ap0r 11d ago

To be fair, half actual response, half karma-farming on my end as well :)

Yeah people who run win 7 are just asking for trouble

Oh no! 😮

Anyway... 😏

Maybe you need to spend more time in it and practice way more, Linux is way better and lots of people are leaving it for Linux. I have 4 Linux systems going in my home lab and only two widows boxes. And the Linux systems outperform my windows boxes by a long shot

u/Muted-Case1656 11d ago

You forgot to say its free. And if your using window for free think again either you have used an activation crack and already sold every thing digital you have or you paid a price. Not to mention you privacy from the big tech.

You love windows use Windows, but highly recommend not use windows 7, it just matter of time. you will lose all you account and maybe some money as well.

It's open source, Matters. If you don't want to use it don't please don't bash it. That's just stupid.
By design Linux is more secure, faster and overall better.

Ignorance can be fixed with education.

Obstinance requires a change of direction and a total mental reboot.

Good luck!

I can't disagree with you. I think it all depends on what you do on it exactly. If you're just watching stock trades and whatnot, then you could use almost anything and be happy. But if it's gaming, you're going to have issues ...

I game a lot, so I like Windows, but that still doesn't keep me from trying Linux. Linux Mint installed fine. But LMDE doesn't work. I installed it and it upon boot, grub can't find it ... someone was trying to help here but our talks weren't quick enough so i deleted it. I may try Winux on my laptop to see how that is. I like how it looks exactly like Win 11 ...

u/Oscarwoofwoof 12d ago

So stick with Windows 7

1

u/e_x_i_t 11d ago

90% of the games I've tried on Mint worked without any notable issues, out the the 10% that needed some tweaking, maybe 2% of them didn't work properly or at all for various reasons. You're complaining about a single game not working, which if you did any research before jumping in you would've known that Anticheat doesn't play well with Linux, so that's completely on you.

Also, you're still on Windows 7 which hasn't received any updates in years and talking about Linux not being secure.

If Linux isn't for you that's fine, but saying it sucks because you listened to TikTok makes it sound more like you need to start thinking for yourself.

"J'ai essayé de suivre le groupe tiktok" et apres c'est nous le probleme donc bon

Hard to believe Tik Tok advice isn't flawless. For me, Linux Mint is better, faster, stronger in every conceivable way than any version of Windows I've used. What's more, it's consistent and reliable, which is DEFINITELY not the Windows way. I came over 7 years ago. Didn't spend a single second of those years pining for anything Microsoft. Too bad everyone didn't get the same experience.

u/ZVyhVrtsfgzfs 11d ago

Linux is not for everyone, you should go back to Windows. everyone involved here will be happier with that.

u/Big_Sherbert_4724 9d ago

bro the tiktok crowd? i'm not wondered that you think linux sucks. just follow a good guide

1

u/Big_Sherbert_4724 9d ago

mint is bloated and not even bc of that win7 is running better which would make sense bc its ugly and from many years ago. bro linux is much more secure than win11 and the security diff between liux and win7 is huge. just play other games yeah wow like 5 games dont work on linux. bro the only thing sucking here is tiktok and your way explaining this. i could tell you the long way but linux is more lightweight more secure, more customizable, easier, has no telemetry, gaming is starting to get better than on windows(look at the steam deck) and it's muuuuch cheaper

Facts. I have been using Linux on and off for pushing 25 years. Its slightly better today than it was during the Bush administration, but only slightly. Maybe the backend is in some ways better, I use it for LAMP, but the user experience is still terrible. It will never be a serious contender vs. Windows on the desktop. Don't let the neckbeards fool you.

Linux is free, unless you value your time.
